The outbreak happened almost at the same time in Sudan and Congo. Scientists found that the virus spreads from wild animals (like fruit bats, monkeys, and apes) to humans and then from person to person through direct contact with blood, body fluids, or contaminated objects. Ebola causes high fever, severe weakness, bleeding, and often leads to death.
