Skellig Michael situated 11.6 kilometres (7.2 mi) west of the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry It consists of approximately 44 acres. The remains of the monastery, which today consists of a small enclosure of beehive hutsand oratories, and most of the island, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996 Several films have used the island as a filming location. The island was used as a filming location for the science fiction films Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and Star Wars: The Last Jedi
