In tests simulating a crash between vehicles traveling in opposite directions at 40 mph, four of the seven electric vehicles tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety — from BMW, Chevy, Tesla and Volkswagen — earned good ratings. Another Tesla model earned a possible acceptable and two others, from Ford and Nissan, have room to improve.
