Because finding wood that fits that height requirement, sometimes woodcuts were recycled and a new engraving was made on the other side. We have some double sided woodcuts in our print shop at the Sacramento History Museum and ...

The NBA basketball season is underway and we here at the Sacramento History Museum are, of course, rooting for the home team! It has been a rough season so far but Jared letterpress printed something for the Sacramento Kings. We had to get out some large wood type that was made in the late 1880s by the Hamilton Wood Type Company for this occasion. The typeface is French Clarendon. The text reads “GO KINGS LIGHT THE BEAM!” The beam appears over the Golden 1 Center when the Kings win. This was pri

November 24th is the start of Thanksgiving Week! Out of school and/or looking for something to do? The Sacramento History Museum is open everyday from 10am to 5pm except for Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 27). For today, Howard letterpress printed an image from a photo engraving in our miscellaneous collection. This is one of a few turkeys in our print shop exhibit that fits the holiday. The turkey seems rather perplexed by what has been served on his plate. This was printed with PMS 7533c rubber base i
