The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) protects your savings if a bank fails. You get up to £85,000 back per person, per bank automatically. You don’t need to sign up. But if you have more than £85,000, the extra could be at risk in what’s called a bail-in. A bail-in means the bank uses its own money, plus funds from shareholders, bondholders, and large depositors, to stay afloat instead of using taxpayers’ money.
